Cranioscral Fascial Therapy-CFT

Craniosacal Fascial Therapy is the work of Dr. Barry Gillespie. It is based on the theory that the craniosacral and fascial systems are not separate, but one interconnected system. It combines the work of Dr. William Sutherlands Craniosacral Therapy and John Barnes’ Myofascial release, as well as techniques from Dr. Gillespie and his experience as a periodontist.

Craniosacral Fascial System
Fascia is a web of all of the connective tissue in the body, and protects the body as a whole. It surrounds, organs, muscles, brain, spinal cord, and other body parts.
The craniosacral system facilitates the flow of cereberospinal fluid. When the Craniosacral Fascial System is loose and open there is free flow of cerebrospinal fluid to help nourish and cleanse toxins.

Fascial Tightness
Fascia can become tight from trauma. Everyone has experienced some kind of trauma: difficult birth, surgery, accidents, falls, concussions, dental work, and even emotional traumas. These traumas tighten the fascia, which in turn can restrict or damage the motion of the craniosacral system. When this happens, it can greatly affect our health and well-being.

How CFT works.
CFT techniques gently unwind and release fascial strain. When the fascia releases, this allows the craniosacral system to open up, giving a better flow of cerebrospinal fluid, and better brain function overall. When the fascia is happy, the body is happy too!

What can I expect from a session?
At the beginning and end of each CFT session, your brain cycle will be assessed to understand the health of your craniosacral system. It is fascinating how the length and quality of your brain cycle relates to the improvement of conditions.
CFT techniques are designed to gently unwind and release accumulated fascial strain. The treatment consists of a gentle touch to release tightness and toxins. You lay on the table fully clothed. At times, you may feel some stretching or there may be a more active "unwind" motion.
